Round 6 Update

18/05/09

The Under 18's were in with a big chance of toppling ladder leaders Nth Shore on Saturday before some undisciplined play cost them in a major way after half time. The 1st quarter was very tight, but in the 2nd term our boys skipped away to a handy 3 goal break before the Bombers pegged the lead back a little just before the interval. The Bombers continued their revival in the 3rd term and unfortunately the Lions focussed on the umpiring for a 15 minute period rather than getting in first for the footy when it was needed most. The boys got back in the game in the final term but couldn't peg the Bombers back. The tough game will stand the boys in good stead for a stern challenge against the Dragons today.

The Reserves opened their account for 2009 and did it in fine style against the Bombers. After an encouraging effort the previous week against UTS, the boys took another step forward putting in a solid 4 quarter effort and coming away with a deserved win. After an even 1st term the Lions lifted their intensity and kicking with the aid of a strong wind in the 2nd quarter were able to take a handy lead into the main break. The Bombers gave it their best shot in the 3rd quarter but couldn't make inroads into the defecit and the Lions powered away in the last stanza. Youngsters Mitch Daly and Shane Morgan continue to play well, Jacob Hart was dangerous up forward while Collyer, Favetta and Brunton were solid in the middle.

The Seniorsremain winless after letting slip a golden opportunity against the Bombers last Saturday. While never getting into top gear the Lions were within a kick at the final change and with a strong wind at their backs were confident of going on with the job in the final quarter. As was the case the previous week, it was the visitors however who lifted most when the game was on the line to record a gritty win. After a week of review and solid training the boys will come out completely focussed tonight on recording a first up win against the Dragons that would get our season finally off and running.
